40 Ford pickup

I’m in the home stretch on the restoration of my 1940 Ford pickup. Soon I’ll be designing door graphics that will advertise Rich Boyd Art.

Well, a year or more has passed since starting this blog – must confess I forgot how to add comments (short term memory loss ;~ ).  I’ve been painting and enjoying some success on the local scene with 2 Best of Show Awards and more than a helf-dozen First Place in Oils Awards. I just joined the Oil Painters of America Society and hope to enter a painting in a nationally juried Show in 2013.

My technique is evolving to a bit more detail in the horse and rider – and less adhearance to a landscape in the reference photo – and I will continue to take my own photos of cowboys and the horses. Hope to travel to Wyoming and Montana to photograph some real working ranch situations for future paintings.

I took in the Master of the American West and the Howard Terpning exhibit at The Autry – both very inspiring. As a result, I’m trying to put more paint on the surface, as it has greater vitality and color density.

I’d prefer not to be labeled as a portrait painter, but will do several portraits this year including a self portrait wearing a cowboy hat in oil. And, I hope to paint a portrait of my son Brayden – if we can agree on a photo of him that he likes ;~ ) More to come.
